Yankees, Come Again No More

(sung to tune of ‘Hardtack, Come Again No More)

Let us leave our farms and families and take our muskets in our hands,

As we all stand at Lincoln’s front door.

As Marse Robert leads us forward, we shall carry the day.

Oh, Yankees, come again no more.

Chorus:

T’is the battle cry of good southrons,

Oh, Yankees, Yankees, come again no more.

Many days have you refused us, our rightful sovernty.

Oh, Yankees, come again no more.

Their only way of fighting is torching our cities,

But we will never stand for this.

We’ll keep on pushing them back, right back to Washington.

Oh, Yankees come again no more.

Chorus

They still blockade our seaports, detaining every ship,

Depriving our countrymen of food.

They fight but as savages, with no gentility.

Oh, Yankees, come again no more.

We routed them at Bull Run, not just once but two times,

But they still didn’t understand.

We won at Fredericksburg as well as Chancellorsvile,

So, Yankees come again once more.

T’is the victorious wail of the soldier,

Oh, Yankees, Yankees, come again once more.

If you will not leave us now, we’ll fill your northern graves.

Oh, Yankees, come again once more.
