In Sunday's paper, Jan. 9, 2000, there was an article about the rally that South Carolinans had to defend the Southern Cross. 6,000 people were there. They had a parade, guest speakers, and the whole 9 yards. The parade had Confederate reenactors and Alberta Martin (92 year old Confederate widow). It sounded great. The NAACP was there, but did not get involved. The NAACP also has not decided to widen the boycott imposed Jan. 1. The state legislature will be voting soon on whether or not to keep the flag about the statehouse. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they don't take it down for the wrong reasons.
