Dear Friends:

Governor Ridge today allocated two million dollars from the State Treasury toward the World War II Memorial.

Perhaps the Governor would re-consider his stance on the Gettysburg monument issue. So far, he has not supported efforts to have Pennsylvania put up the money to restore Pennsylvania markers..saying it's a Federal park and Federal responsibility. Governors of several southern states have said they would restore their states monuments, and just this week Gov. Whitman of New Jersey pledged necessary funds for NJ markers.

Gov. Ridge needs to see that 1)the states originally put up the money for these markers in the 1880's 2)Pennsylania gains the most from tourism and 3)with the huge state surplus, we can afford it.

It you feel like contacting him, here is his website.

I just left a very polite message asking him to reconsider. Even if you are not from PA, he will listen to you as he is running for VP.

Yours for Preservation,

Myles
