The gravel company is starting to mine the site of the Battle of Buffington Island. Earthmovers are moving in even as I speak. Another part of our heritage is being destroyed. I am embarassed to say that it was my own agency that gave the permission to mine. You may read about it at

It is sad Miss Moore. However because of the efforts of a number of people, some concessions to history were made! What is really sad, is the fact that that land could have been purchased for next to nothing 30 yrs ago and no one was interested.
