To Sober Grant. I ordered the 14 volume jShelby Foote. ($$$!!!) I actually ordered it for the illustration, since I have the 3 vol. set. The illustrations are from Time-Life, so if you have the multi volume Time-Life series on the Civil War and the orig. Shelby Foote, you wouldn't need it. But the Time-Life illustrations are fantastic (and copious). Does this help?? I am considering purchasing Shelby Foote's 14 volume series on the American Civil War. Does anyone have any recommendations one way or the other on his stuff? Thanks.
I too am unfamiliar with Foote's 14 volume set-although now I want to be. I have read the three volume narrative. His grasp of detail is somewhat astonishing to me.It is written in so compelling a fashion as to cause one to think they are actually present.
Generally speaking,I would say you can't go wrong with Foote-although an earlier post had lamented the $$$$ involved. Hope this helps
