I am considering purchasing Shelby Foote's 14 volume series on the American Civil War. Does anyone have any recommendations one way or the other on his stuff? Thanks.
I have read one of the first of the series Ft. Sumter to G'burg and it was laborious reading but worth it. Foote's work was so filled with details, quotes, little known information that I became bogged down. But he know Civil War History as if it were his own experience. I would suggest getting from the library one of the audio cassettes first and listening rather than reading, unless you are a good reader, otherwise you might find yourself nodding off and accidentally discharging your musket.
