Subject: Role playing

Message Detail:
I participated in the Ohio Statehouse Reenactment this last weekend. I did not do any nursing duties. I concentrated on writing letters for illiterate soldiers or providing stationary and postage for the others. I set up a tent with tables and chairs. I put out the Christian Commission sign and two other smaller signs advertising the free stationary and stamps. I gave out CC dogtags and tracts.

I could only get one soldier to actually take a few minutes and dictate a letter to me. Most stayed long enough only to take the dogtags.

Does anyone have suggestions as how I can get more soldiers to role-play with me? Do others have similar experiences where they try to stay in character and the other participants dont't go with it for very long. What more can I do? I had signs. I reminded soldiers in my unit to come over. I even asked some officers to send over the privates. How can I be more assertive or persausive when they stop by my tent?
