![]() Subject: Smoke Rings: |
Ever been to a reenactment or an artillery demonstartion and seen smoke rings from the muzzle of a cannon? Sometimes they hold together for quite awhile. But what do they mean?
What I'm getting at is this. I usually dismiss them as meaning very little, but one day I heard a young child from the spectator line tell his friend something that forever changed how I think of the smoke rings. His friend said, "Neato! Look at that!" The young lad's reply was, "My granddaddy told me once that when you see a smoke ring at a reenactment, it is the halo of one of the soldiers in heaven who has come down to watch the battle, and is so happy that folks are remembering the soldiers and what they did, that he makes his presence known." Whether or not you believe this, it is a nice thought anyway. What does everyone else think? JR |
