I will report on my most "real experience" in reenacting. I was with the Christian Commission at Ohio Village (a living history town in Columbus). We were passing out cold lemonade and cookies to the soldiers. The battle was going on near us. A man walked up to our tent. He was very hot and saw our sign for cold lemonade and noticed our stools. He needed water real fast. We sat him down, gave him water and put wet towels on his forehead. For a few anxious minutes, I felt that I really was Miss Jane Moore, CC nurse and tending to a potentially sick soldier. Thank goodness he was okay and did not get sick or faint. But it was a harrowing few minutes and I understand the nurses' work better. |
