Boy, that's a lot of questions/topics coming from a rustly ole hulk, but I'll try 'em one at at time.

Cost of uniforms/equipment:
It can be substantial, depending on the impression you want. You are looking at at least $1000 just for the basic infantry private to carry what you need in the field, 'campaign style.' $400 for a musket, or so is the main cost. Through in something like a sharpshooter, or an officer, etc., and it's even higher.

Now, there are a few sutlers who offer special, bargain-rate package deals, ie. C&C Sutlery - coat, trousers, suspenders, hat and belt for like $150 or so. My advice with this is that they are best avoided, as you truly are getting what you paid for = Cheapo goods at a bargain price.

The good thing about the cost. Once you bought it, if you buy good stuff, it should last for a good amount of time if cared for.
