Sometimes, if the camp was near a big town and there was no immediate danger, townswomen might come out to visit and to bring aid such as reading materials or food snacks. Usually the only women visitors were laundresses, Christian Commission women, Sanitary Commission workers, and nurses. And usually, most women had an escort while in camp. So, fellow reenactresses, please visit the camp only if it is appropriate to the time period of the encampment.
