Subject: RE: civil war boat

Message Detail:
need information on a civil war boat named the "Hurt"---am doing genealogy and found that my g.g.g. grandfather was wounded in the war and was returing home when he fell overboard the "Hurt" and drowned in 1863 in wilmington n.c.
thank you
Mary Lee

Have not yet found any reference on the HURT Have gone through Confederate Naval Ships register and not found any vessel by that name...Have gone through Union Navy Ships Register and no vessel by that name Have reason to believe that the HURT is a local owned transport/passeger boat Need to know was yer grandpappy a Confederate soldier or Union? was he on leave to the Wilmington area before or after the Union occupation? Knowing what side your grandpappy fought on can help me zero in on the status of vessel The HURT may have been a contracted boat many "local"owned boats were contracted by the government(Reb/Union) To move about supplies and personell..Ironclad
