Message Detail:
Thankyou very much for your helpful comments.
I have spent a life time teaching. Consequently, I have in the past, put off my visit to Gettysburg. Now, with the onset of heart disease, I feared I would miss out on this visit.
I have to confess that I am very much a Robert E. Lee man. Because of this, I want to retrace his steps throughout those 3 days.
For the life of me, I do not understand what is pulling me to Gettysburg; perhaps my visit will provide the answers.
Further, I really did want to take in those specific 3 days in July. I am, however, taking in your advice.
In closing, may I ask of your "sympathies?" Do they lie with the North?
Thankyou again for your time and consideration.
Tom.

Tom,
I have five ancestors who faught in the war on the side of the North, consequently my sympathies are generally with the North, however, I don't generally view the war as a battle between "The Good Guys and the Bad Guys" . The ACW was an American tradgey which could have been avoided had cooler heads prevailed on both sides. It was the result, among other things of a clash of cultures, philosophies, and ideals regarding the role of our Federal Government.

My comment suggesting that the July 1-3 period be avoided as a time to visit was based on the fact that that is one period when Gettysburg is most crowded.
