![]() Subject: Ghostly Gettysburg |
In the early Sixties I was employed in a TB hospital at South Mountain. This was before the park was as tightly patrolled as it is now, particularly at night. A group of us made numerous nightly excursions over the field. We soon discovered that the gate to the interior of the Penna. Monument was broken granting us access to the ramparts. As one looked out over the Copse onto the site of the Charge you could almost visualize Armistead leading his men to the Stone Wall. Two other areas sure to raise a tingle in the nape of the neck were around Devil's Den and at Spangler's springs below Culp's Hill. Though I never actually "saw" any spirits the feeling of being surrounded by presences was always there. Perhaps this was the result of an overactive imagination fortified by Rolling Rock. |
