Hmmm. Sounds sort of nebulous. Sort of like asking a North Carolinian what a Tarheel is. I've heard about 20 versions of that one. The term "Georgia Cracker" originally referred to mule wagon drivers who could crack their whips above their team's head in a very stylish manner. Whether Georgians could do that better than wagon drivers in any other state is, to my mind, a rather doubtful proposition, but apparently Georgia had "first dibs" on the title. Originally, unlike today, the name had positive connotations. Nowadays, I don't go around introducing myself as a cracker. I have a faint Indiana connection, by the way. One of my mother's Florida ancestors left Florida for Indiana in the 1850's in order to free his slaves.
