![]() Subject: RE: Gettysburg and should Meade have persued Lee? |
Hi folks,
Well you guessed it by the title, I am the son of Jim TNO. My dad suggested that I bring my question before you folks so here goes.. Should Meade have persued Lee more vigoroously? Or was the AOP just as badly mauled as the ANV and that trully prevented it from doing so! And if the AOP had chased the ANV and caught it BEFORE it got to the river, does the war end there as the ANV is destroyed? THanks Steve I do think the main problem with Meade not following to close was the fact that he was only in charge on July 4th for 6 days( And Sykes). His 1st, 2nd, and 3rd corps where in new hands. Rowley was under arest. Paul had his eyes shot out. Gibbon was hit,as was Barlow. Zook ,Cross,Weed ,Vincent, Farnsworth dead. Kane is is Ill( Although his brigade is well run by Cobham)Then the hapless Schimmelfenning found after the battle.I may of missed a few people The 6th corps is tired after long marches. 1st, 3rd, 11th, are shells of there former self. He is the one left with all those wounded. In the largest battle of the war with a chief of staff he does not like. I think its amazing he pulled off the battle at all and had his tired Cavalry corps on the chase with more new men Merrit,Custer. Well thats what I think. Old Juan And I think you make some very good points, Old Juan! |
