The Cordori mentioned in these posts was George Codori, not the same person of Cordori farmhouse fame and Pickett's Charge. This poor chap was wearing a pair of sky blue Union trousers sent to him from the front by his son. He was driving the family wagon, and aparently as the Rebs seized GB and the surrounding roads to the north and west, they mistook him for a Union teamster and sent himn to Virginia to prison, where he eventually contracted a disease that proved fatal.
There are also lots of stories of civilians wounded or with near misses. I was in the VC this past weekend once again, and looked with wonder at the display of bedposts with bullet holes that narrowly missed residents who were cowering in bed under the blankets in fear. Walk around GB and note all the holes in the old houses and shops - it's truly amazing that only Jenny Wade died! IIRC, one GB resident was paralyzed by a bullet on day #1, and required constant care the rest of his/her life. Anyone know the details of this incident? Scott |
