JD,
Methinks you're confused. The Spencer was a seven shot repeater. The Spencer carbine did not come into mass production until the fall of 1863, and were not commonly distributed to the AoP's Cavalry Corps until the spring of 1864. The single-shot Sharps was commonly carried by the time of Stoneman's Raid in May 1863. Eric Alright!!! Let's talk cavalry!!! Question... when were the Spencer breechloading carbines (single shot) issued to Buford's brigades? About how long before Gettysburg did they have them? Oooops. I meant Sharps. Don't tell anyone I said Spencer. |
